Google Launches Gemini AI App in India, Supporting Nine Local Languages

In a significant move amid the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI), Google has introduced its AI assistant, Gemini, to the Indian market. As of Tuesday, the Gemini app is available in India, supporting English and nine additional languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This diverse language support aims to make the app more accessible to a broader range of users across the country.

The Gemini app offers various functionalities, allowing users to type, speak, or even upload images to receive the assistance they need. This versatility makes it a powerful tool for daily tasks and inquiries.

Key Features and Enhancements

Google is not just stopping at language support; it is enhancing Gemini with new features and capabilities. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, announced on the social media platform X that local languages are being integrated into Gemini Advanced, alongside the introduction of new features. This includes enhanced data analysis capabilities and the ability to upload files.

Gemini Advanced users in India can now leverage the capabilities of the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which is Google’s most advanced AI model to date. This version includes a 1 million token context window, making it the chatbot with the longest context of any widely available consumer AI.

Integration with Google Messages

In addition to the standalone app, Google is also integrating Gemini into Google Messages, initially in English. This integration is designed to provide users with a seamless way to interact with Gemini directly through their messaging app, enhancing usability and convenience.

Rolling Out on iOS

For iOS users, access to Gemini will be rolled out through the Google app in the coming weeks. This gradual rollout ensures that the app’s advanced features and capabilities are available across different platforms, providing a consistent user experience.

Google's launch of the Gemini app in India marks a significant step in making AI more accessible and useful for a diverse population, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and technological advancement.
